PRESENTATION

Made by Made pays tribute to the Balinese craftsman’s art, to the ancestral « savoir faire » to the love of sharing and the patience while creating.

While traveling in Bali during September 2012, I discover on a beach the amazing work of the local craftsmen. Weaving is everywhere:
offering thrown in the sea, baskets, bamboo thatched roofs...

When returning to Paris, the perfect dance of the hands and fingers comes back to my mind... I try to reproduce their agility, to find again the path dedicated to each part of fabric. Every day, during many hours although not without difficulties, I practice this Balinese cultural art. I apply myself, I restart, I undo, I redo, I drop it, I begin again, I persevere and one day, I shape my first small handbag. The more I strive in the confection, my wish to go back becomes greater. I do not know their language but I have learned the one of weaving.

Three years later, I decide to move to Bali. I become Made (Balinese first name given to the second child). I invite some local craftsmen to join me to give life to Made by Made.

Weaving is a moment of communion where we share some life experiences.
Twelves hours of tedious work are necessary to create a small handbag.
Thirty for a computer case and more than sixty for our decorative cushions.

Every piece is unique by its colours, its textures, its singularity. It is precisely what makes our work identity: every weaved piece tells a story, your story. The used fabrics come from Denpasar. Our medals are executed in Celuk, small village close to Ubud, famous for its silversmiths.

Made by Made pays tribute to the Balinese craftsman’s art, to the ancestral « savoir faire » (ça se dit aussi en anglais), to the love of sharing and the patience while creating.

I hope that you will have as much pleasure to wear our work than we had to create it.
